To wash a wool-based scarf, it is recommended to wash it by hand. Soak the scarf in tepid water (be careful as wool does not tolerate extreme temperatures Use a gentle detergent or one specifically made for wool. Do not let it soak for too long. To dry, place the scarf in a cotton towel to absorb the excess water, but do not wring or twist it. Then lay the scarf flat to dry. You can restore the scarf’s softness and delicate touch by ironing on high heat with the steam function. While putting it in the dryer is absolutely out of the question, you can take it in for dry cleaning instead.
The weaving method used to create this scarf, known as the Jacquard method, involves interweaving a silk warp thread with a Merino wool weft thread in a specific pattern. The Fabrique d’Écharpe weaving atelier employs Jacquard looms to achieve this. The Jacquard loom, invented by Lyon-native Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, was the first mechanical system programmable with perforated cards to create designs by interweaving different colored threads. Thanks to the artisan weaving knowledge passed down from generation to generation since 1880, we now have electronically controlled looms that produce scarves of impeccable quality while adhering to the purest methods of traditional Lyon Jacquard weaving.
